About THE BEAU & THE BELLE

Beau Fortier starred in most of my cringe-worthy teenage fantasies.

I met him when I was a junior in high school, a time that revolved exclusively around bad hair, failed forays into flirting, and scientific inquiries into which brand of toilet paper worked best for stuffing bras.

That is, until Beau moved into the small guest house just beyond my bedroom window.

A 24-year-old law student at Tulane, Beau was as mysterious to me as second base (both in baseball and in the bedroom). He was older. Intimidating. Hot. Boys my age had chicken legs and chubby cheeks. Beau had calloused hands and a jaw cut from steel. Our interactions were scarce—mostly involving slight stalking on my end—and yet deep down, I desperately hoped he saw me as more of a potential lover than a lovesick loser.

Turns out, I was fooling myself. My fragile ego learned that lesson the hard way.

Now, ten years later, we’re both back in New Orleans, and guess who suddenly can’t take his eyes off little ol’ me.

My old friend, Mr. Fortier.

But things have changed. I’m older now—poised and confident. My ego wears a bulletproof vest. The butterflies that once filled my stomach have all perished.

When I was a teenager, Beau warned me to guard my heart.

Let’s hope he knows how to guard his.

Whenever a new RS Grey book comes out, I am always counting down the days until I can read it. All I knew about this book was that it took place in New Orleans and I couldn’t wait to dive in!

When Beau Fortier rents her parents’ guest house as he finishes up his last year of law school, Lauren doesn’t really think anything of it. Until she spends a little more time with Beau and starts growing a crush. Big time. But, being the naive awkward teenager she is, Lauren humiliates herself and learns the hard way to protect her heart. Ten years later, both Lauren and Beau are back in New Orleans and Beau doesn’t see Lauren as a too young teenager anymore. Lauren is nothing like the naive girl she used to be and Beau has no idea what he’s in for.

In the beginning of this book, a good chunk is spent on when Lauren is in high school and Beau is too old for her and living in her parents’ guest house. While I am outgrowing YA, it didn’t read like a YA at all, even though it was about a teenager. Lauren was so relatable and I really enjoyed how she actually had some cringe-worthy moments with boys while realizing she had a stirring crush on Beau. Beau’s character was so intriguing and I loved how he felt protective and a bit jealous when it came to Lauren, but he knew he was way too old and could do nothing about it. I will say, though, that I was dying to finally see them ten years older and see what exactly Lauren had in store for Beau as an experienced, confident woman.

When we finally jumped to ten years later, I LOVED Lauren’s character. While she was older, she was still the same girl as before and she was so determined to make her own business work after moving back to New Orleans. I was also swooning hardcore over Beau’s character. It was fun watching him really fall for Lauren and I loved how he became everything he had worked for when we saw him while he was still in law school. As always, there were so many fun moments mixed in with the serious and I didn’t want this book to end.

What more can I say? This was another hit from RS Grey that I couldn’t put down. While there was an age gap and I am super hesitant about those, the format of this book and having that development when they were younger had me fangirling over their relationship. If you’re a fan of RS Grey or fantastic romantic comedies, you have to pick this up!
