Book Review: Just What I Needed by Lorelei James

Just What I Needed (Need You #2)
By Lorelei James
Release Date: August 2, 2016
The second sexy novel in the Need You series, from the New York Times bestselling author of the Mastered Series and the Blacktop Cowboys® Series.

Trinity Carlson might be having the worst day ever. And that was before she started drinking in a dive bar, right across from her ex and his new girlfriend. So when she finally decides enough is enough, she grabs hold of a hot, blond stranger and gives him the kiss of his life.

Walker Lund never expected that a chance at love would hit him right on the mouth. Since the moment his brother decided to settle down, Walker has been dodging his family’s hopes that he’ll do the same.  He’s never been interested in following in anyone’s footsteps. But when he discovers his sexy assailant has given him a fake name and number he suddenly finds himself in the mood for a little hot pursuit

Of the books I've read by Lorelei James so far, I've really enjoyed her writing. I've never read one of her straight-up contemporaries before, so I couldn't wait to dive in and meet the hunky stranger our main character confronts in a bar for an unforgettable introduction.

Trinity Carlson is not having the best day. Throw in the fact that her ex-boyfriend walks into the bar she's drinking at with the women he cheated on her with, and Trinity has hit a serious low. To save face, Trinity marches up to the first single man she finds and pretends he's her date. Walker Lund is shocked when the gorgeous women at the bar lays a big one on him, only to give him a fake name and number with the (fake) promise of a second date. But Walker won't give up that easily and is determined to find the first women who really makes him feel things he's never felt before.

THIS BOOK. Wow. From the first chapter I was absolutely hooked on the story and the amazing characters and the amazing romance. The chemistry between Trinity and Walker was instant and I loved the fun way that they met. However, this book was definitely not all fun and games. Trinity is such a quirky character and has some real ups and downs emotionally and with her career as an artist. She doesn't have the most supportive family and it's nice to see her really connect with Walker and meet his insanely nosey, large family. Walker's family was definitely entertaining and I loved how involved in his life they all were.

While the romance in this book was awesome, what sealed the deal was the chemistry and build up to the romance. Walker and Trinity didn't just jump into bed together two chapters in. They are both hesitant to start something and really let their attraction build and sizzle before things heated up. That made me so much more invested in the story and I literally could not stop reading until the end.

Overall, this was a major hit for Lorelei James! She delivered lovable characters with crazy families, a sizzling, slow-burn romance, and some serious emotions. If you love a good contemporary and want refreshing characters, you HAVE to pick up Just What I Needed!
